Life of a Runner: Mending

Hello readers! I am slowly recovering from my cold. It’s taking longer than I expected, so you’re in for another short entry here. Enjoy!

Monday

2 miles, 17:16 (8:40/mile)

In the morning, I did another lower body workout. I want to try to get myself healthy as fast as possible, and sometimes the only way to do that is to work hard and exercise. The workout felt good and got me ready for the day, though I was coughing a lot after.

This afternoon, I did two miles around town. It was hot! I opted to run without a shirt because it was close to 90 degrees. Unfortunately, I got told by a couple of little boys to “put a shirt on” so that made me feel great. I’ve got to get used to this heat again! I was pretty sweaty by the time I got back. The run went relatively well considering my cold, but I really don’t have any breathing issues. It’s mostly just a cough and my throat is a bit sore.

Tuesday

2 miles, 17:38 (8:49/mile)

Woke up, did an upper body workout, felt good. My cough was worse this morning, and my voice does not sound good. That makes it hard for teaching, let me tell you. The kids have been really good about it, though, being quiet and listening so they can actually hear me.

My afternoon run went similar to yesterday. I felt fine save for the heat, and my pace was pretty close to yesterday too. I’m trying not to push it, both because of my cold and because I’m not used to the heat. Honestly, I’m not sure how well this “run it out” method is going for my sickness.

Wednesday

OFF

I woke up and did an abs and core workout, but I took the day off of running. It was pouring rain and in the fifties, so I didn’t think it was a great idea to go out with my cold. Plus I want to see if a day off of running would help.

Thursday

OFF

I took today completely off. Wednesday was horrible for my cough and my voice was gone. Maybe rest is actually the thing I need.

Friday

1 mile, 8:40

Today did not go well. I felt awful the whole time. I’m not sure what it was, whether I was dehydrated or if it was the heat or my cold, but that did not go well. That’s also why I stopped at a mile. Even after that, I felt exhausted and spent quite a bit of time coughing afterward. Gosh darn it, I just want to be healthy!! Just when I was really picking up speed with my training, I get taken back by a stupid cold. To be honest, it’s been such a long time since I’ve had a cold, I forgot how it feels to run with one. Maybe this is normal, maybe it isn’t. I really don’t remember.

Saturday

OFF

I took some allergy relief pills to see if that would help, instead it sort of knocked me out for a few hours. I missed the opportunity to run today, but I think it helped.

Sunday

2 miles, 18:17 (9:08/mile)

Wow. Today also sucked. It was hot and slow, but it did kind of feel good. I mean, not great, but not bad. I took my phone with my and played music, and I really think that was my saving grace today. I don’t know if I would have made it two miles without it (which sounds really sad). Part of my problem was probably that I was dehydrated. I ran around 10:30, and I just had a bit of water and a pop tart for breakfast. I coughed a lot after the run, went inside, drank water, cooled off for a bit, but then I had to go mow the lawn. That really sucked because by the time I was done, it was noon and I was feeling dizzy and horribly dehydrated. The rest of the day was spent rehydrating, recovering, and doing random adult things that needed to be done.

This was not a very exciting week, but I’m hoping this next week will be better. Thanks for sticking with me!
